There are five trims available for the Kia Optima: LX (S), S (EX), EX Premium (EX Premium), and SX. Each trim level of the Optima Hybrid or Optima Plug-In Hybrid is only available in EX.
The entry-level LX starts at $23,500. It features 16-inch alloy wheels, auto headlights with High Beam Assist, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, LED daytime running lamps, variable windshield wipers, and heated side mirrors. The interior features include a 6-speaker audio system, 60/40 split-folding rear seats with center armrest, an 8-inch touchscreen, air conditioning and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, Bluetooth and cloth seats.
The 2020 Optima is equipped with a complete suite of driver safety tools. These include Driver Attention Warning, Blind-Spot Collision, Forward Collision Warning and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection.
The S trim is available for around $25,000 and features 18-inch wheels, LED rear light, fog lights, rear spoiler and proximity keyless trunk. Door handle pocket lights illuminate when the driver is close to them. The cabin features a 10-way power driver’s chair, a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, front automatic one touch windows, and cloth-leatherette trim.

The EX Premium, which costs approximately $30,000., adds an extra level of comfort. The EX Premium includes a panoramic sunroof and heated/ventilated front chairs, a 12-way driver’s/passenger’s seat, an 8-way passenger’s/driver’s seat, ambient lighting, Harman Kardon 10 speaker premium audio system, a heated steering column, LED interior lighting, leatherette trim, voice-command navigation, and voice-command navigation.
The SX is the top-of-the-line model and retails at $32,000. It comes with almost every convenience that the Optima offers. Exterior details include 18-inch gloss-black alloy wheels, curve-adaptive, auto-leveling LED headlights and LED fog lights. There are memory settings for the driver, satin chrome accent trim and leather sport seating. The steering wheel is race-inspired.
Performance and Engine
Five powertrain options are available on the Kia Optima. The LX and S trims get a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder with 185 horsepower and 178 lbft of torque. EX and EX Premium use a turbocharged, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder to produce 178 horsepower and 195 lbft of torque. The SX comes with its own powerplant, a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder producing 245 horsepower and 260 lbft of torque. The LX, S and SX have a 6-speed auto transmission, while the EX trims have a 7-speed dual clutch automatic.
The Hybrid Plug-In and Hybrid Plug-In both use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that’s mated with an electric motor. It produces 271 lb-ft and 192 horsepower. Unlike many competitors that employ continuously-variable transmissions, the Optima hybrids use a more traditional 6-speed automatic.
The interior of the Optima is comfortable and well-appointed. The interior is spacious and sports a sporty design. S and SX trims have unique interior trim that makes them feel more race-inspired.
